A family garden that is both productive and beautiful using combinations that contrast and blend from entirely edible plantings. Every plant used has a function; some familiar; some unexpected. The garden provides shelter, food, fun and a place of either quiet contemplation or play in an urban setting. Our aim is to use container plants; easy care plants, has child appeal and is achievable for everyone.

'Soil & Health Canterbury' and 'The Good Gardeners’ Association, Christchurch' have combined to create this inspirational garden, demonstrating that beauty and sustainability can go hand in hand. Organically grown fruit & vegetables nestle alongside herbs and flowers in abundance. They thrive in healthy soil, which has been enriched with compost and mulch. Ornamental structures have been constructed from recycled materials and provide a sanctuary for the gardener to rest and contemplate the bountiful fruits of his labour. To see the design click here

Peace by Piece is essentially a garden of hope, inspiration, and ideas. 1,675 ideas for creating a better world are displayed in a garden room shaped in the form of a flower. The experience we hope to create is one of heartfelt inspiration, and will be most felt on approaching the walls and selecting messages to read. We hope to facilitate this by opening the garden late in the show. To see the garden design, click here

In the not too distant future, Christchurch’s city centre will become home to 25,000 new residents. As the heart of the city expands, utilization of space becomes essential, and a diverse response is required to create sanctuaries amongst chaotic surroundings.
To provide a little perspective on the situation, an unused rooftop is retrofitted into a private residential retreat. As the Pacific Ocean, Banks Peninsula, and the Southern Alps become our only boundaries, we address the fundamentals of inner city life, and apply elements of urban paradise, to find solace in the Christchurch skyline. My Little Corner of the World encapsulates our objective to create a garden that is inviting and inspires reflection and relaxation. When retreating to this garden oasis, the pressures of everyday life will vanish. We have incorporated a circular focus throughout the garden. The circle is an object of nature, considered a symbol of unity and encourages relaxation. The elevated deck allows for a contemplative outlook over the garden, with its calming stream, waterfall and circular pool. To see the garden's design click here.

“Jungle Fever”
Designer: Scotty Fletcher
ZISK Design & Paving Nature Ltd
“Jungle Fever” is a representation of a liveable, workable, controlled and eco-friendly jungle at home!
Imagine walking up a rock waterfall spanning over 12.5 thousand kms apart, onto a suspended platform and surrounded by lush green jungle, with your own ensuite!
This garden is full of life literally, with fish, turtles and an abundance of micro climates that is crucial to the survival of this type of garden. It has form, function and all the sensors to make you never want to leave and of course every garden needs to have sculpture. Wire balls blend in beautifully with the softness of its surrounds. ENJOY!! ♥

This project came about by wondering what the life expectancy of an average garden exhibit was after the show. We have focused on a cradle to cradle approach that takes the unexpected and turns it into a piece of art that gives cool relief before returning it back to its original and mundane industrial function. This project is not about the exhibition days at the show but how a process was created to deliver the final exhibition to the show and what happens to it after the show. Come and dip your feet.

A medicinal and spiritual place

Tohunga derived from 'whakato' to plant. 'Kahunga' to hide Planting the seed of information and guidance for the benefit of the people that seek it and then to step back, or hide, so that the guidance given is the main focus. And it is so with this garden, that the plants we use can be learnt and their properties be taught. We can draw from this what we need.
